Monobloc vs split
| Monobloc | Split | |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | All refrigerant parts in one outdoor unit; only water pipes go indoors | Outdoor unit plus indoor hydro unit or tank, linked by refrigerant pipes |
| Installation | Simpler; no refrigerant work on site | Needs refrigerant piping and vacuuming |
| Best for | Most homes and commercial buildings | Indoor tanks far from outdoor space; condos |
| Pecol models | WHP-HW, WHP-R3DC, WHP-R4DC | SAHP / DCSAHP split water heaters |
Refrigerants: R32, R290, R410A, R134A and CO2
| Refrigerant | Strength | Used in Pecol |
|---|---|---|
| R32 | Efficient, lower global warming potential than R410A (up to about 75% less CO2-equivalent) | R32 DC inverter monoblock, DC inverter split |
| R290 (propane) | Natural refrigerant, very low GWP, high efficiency | R290 eco all-in-one domestic |
| R410A | Proven, stable performance | DHW monoblock, commercial and pool units |
| R134A | Reaches high water temperatures (up to 80°C) | High-temperature and commercial water heaters |
| CO2 (R744) | Very high water temperatures, mainly for cold climates | Not in the standard range; ask for project options |
DC inverter and EVI
A DC inverter compressor changes speed instead of switching on and off. It heats quickly at high frequency when the tank is cold, then slows down to hold temperature with less energy. It also starts at low current, which is gentler on the electrical supply.
EVI (enhanced vapour injection) injects extra refrigerant vapour into the compressor to keep heating capacity high in cold air. Pecol's brochure shows EVI units deliver over 30% more heating than ordinary heat pumps in cold climates. In Malaysia, EVI mainly matters for highland resorts and export projects.
High-temperature and reversible models
- High temperature (R134A): up to 80°C outlet water for commercial kitchens, laundries and process use.
- Reversible: switches between heating and cooling, giving hot water plus chilled water (5–20°C) for fan coils. See cooling and heating.
- Solar-assisted: an air to water heat pump can be powered partly by rooftop solar PV during the day; Pecol's DC inverter split has an optional PV connection.
